Kaftans have always been a staple in the Islamic world due to the simplicity and modesty of the gown. Both men and women have adorned the kaftan since it originated in the Middle East around 600 BCE. The beautiful garment can be seen in ancient artwork from the Ottoman Empire, and the style can be found throughout Africa, where the Takchita, the Jellabiya, the Dashiki and the Boubou reflect the layering, embroidery, and general shape of the Middle Eastern kaftans.

At Nikah.ca, we are always looking for the latest in wedding trends and modest fashion, and the kaftan is no exception. During the 60’s, kaftans, in their many forms, came into popularity. Now, the style is slowly reemerging as Moroccan-style weddings, bridal showers, and parties are coming into popularity.

Our model for the Muslim Bridal Convention rocked the kaftan for her glamorous photo shoot. The kaftan is a great way to incorporate modesty and style into your wedding. Whether it's in Africa, the Middle East, or ancient Persia, the beauty of the kaftan has lasted because of its classic look and its timeless allure. There are always new and creative ways to wear the kaftan, and our Bridal Convention, happening on October 3rd at the Metro Convention Centre in the heart of downtown Toronto, is aimed to help you find the right style for your wedding! Check it out for more inspiration.
